History of Olinda

The city was founded in 1535 by the donee of the captaincy of Pernambuco Duarte Coelho Pereira and soon became the state capital and residence of the planters and other important people. Its baroque architecture of the colonial period is found in houses and churches throughout the city.In 1710, there was the war against peddlers of Recife, the reason the war was the rivalry between the two cities that began in 1630 when the Dutch chose to stay in Recife in the capital.Today Olinda is no longer the capital of Pernambuco, having lost his post to Recife, but has incomparable beauties scattered through the city streets.
